Ten years after his last exhibition, in June 2006, Mario Vidor is making his return to the Bistrot de Venise. During his lengthy and intense career, the great photographer from Farra di Soligo has published dozens of books and has put on more than 300 solo exhibitions, both in Europe and on other continents.
Here are a few: Frame O’Rama in New York; the Arles Photography Festival and the International Photography Exhibit in Paris; in Russia, the Samara Art Museum and the Arka Gallery in Saint Petersburg, in Omsk and the State Art Museum in Novosibirsk; the Photokina in Cologne; the Wagner Museum in Bayreuth; the Centre for Contemporary Art in Beijing; the Sala Barna in Barcelona; the Ukrainian museums Vinnitsya, Tulchyn and Ladyzhyn; the C. Scott Gallery in Vancouver, Canada; the Croatian museums Albona, Fiume, Pinguente, Rovigno, Zagabria; we could add many more.
In Italy he has held exhibitions at the Sicof Cultura and the “Il Diaframma” gallery in Milan, in Ferrara, Rome, Palermo, Florence, etc.
Here in Venice he has showcased his work at the Spazio Olivetti, the Italian-German Cultural Association, the Querini Stampalia Foundation, the Venice Biennale and, recently, at the Centro Candiani in Mestre. His works are also on display in private collections, museums and notable galleries across the world.
Here are some of the prestigious accolades he has received: awards from the B.F.I. and the A.F.I., the Premio Bancarella award in Pontremoli in 1992, the award for best Veneto photographer in Padua in 1996, and the Goldoni prize in Macerata. In 2002, in Orvieto, with his book “Pagine Bianche” he was ranked first in the ‘creative photography’ category.
