The decision to seek, and find, the wisdom of painting in the chaos of the present day, recuperating the lessons of the great masters of the past to breathe life into the art of the present; colour, light and brushstrokes reach us from afar to be translated into a personal exploration of sentiment and aesthetics. Landscapes, nudes and still lifes that manage to depict both the real and the emotions that it transmits, and find a solid way forward built of knowing chromatic impasto, atmosphere, and tonality that is suffused one minute but intense the next. Francesco Donà was born in Venice. He graduated from Venice’s Academy of Fine Arts in 1999, after which he attended a course in painting, engraving and anatomy at the Complutense University of Madrid and devoted himself to studying Velásquez. His interest in the great masters of European painting took him to Greece where he would join an international group of artists working in the field of traditional figurative painting under the guidance of master Kostantios Kerestetzis: A technical exploration of the language of painting that, for three years, would take him from Greece to Spain and Italy and which would bear fruit in his works. Francesco Donà lives and works in Venice.
