Female figures, portraits, allegorical paintings, sacred subjects and landscapes are fuelled by an ancient pictorial “strength” whose roots lie in the art of the past. This art comes from Stefan Popdimitrov’s homeland of Bulgaria and the city of Venice, where he now lives and works. There are also Byzantine and Renaissance influences. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Art in Sofia, Popdimitrov moved to the city on the lagoon to complement his studies with a degree from the Venice Academy of Fine Art. He also works as a graphic artist, illustrator and sculptor, has appeared in numerous solo and group exhibitions, has received important awards and forms of recognition, and many of his pieces can be found in the Modern Art Museum in Sofia and in private collections. In recent years, he has focused in particular on making commissioned sculptural works. This means that he has neglected exhibitions somewhat, but he is making his return with this show. The theme of birth on which he is working will mark a new step in his personal, substantial challenge to the contemporary world, which is packed with colour, light and passion.

Exhibition prepared by Emanuele Horodniceanu

The works will remain on display until 14 November 2012
