Thursday 21 February 2013 5.30 p.m. – Free admission - PAINTING

Buildings, houses, front doors, windows and timeworn lagoon walls that are ragged, scraped, revisited and reworked with colour but also with sea and river sand, powder, cement, resin, gold leaf and paper… Having ventured into abstract and non-representational art and depictions of the human body, Elisabetta Cioffi has “returned” to her hometown and rediscovered it with her “curiosity” and expertise of materials and painting. She was born in Venice and graduated from the Academy of Fine Art with Fabrizio Plessi. She developed her artistic skills in the lagoon city and in Brussels. She has been exhibiting since 1985 and many of her works can be found in private collections in Italy and other countries. In her constant, enthusiastic experimentation, she uses a wide variety of techniques and materials. Her knowledge of different forms of expression supports a concept of painting which shifts between spectacular openings and close-ups on details, with gestures and constructive exactitude, two-dimensionality and plasticity. Elisabetta Cioffi lives and works in Venice.

Exhibition prepared by Emanuele Horodniceanu

The works will remain on display until 7 March 2013
