“LES SEPT MENDIANTS” (FRENCH TRANSLATION BY JEAN BAUMGARTEN, WITH ILLUSTRATIONS BY SANDRA ZEMOR)
Artist Sandra Zemor divides her time between France, Israel and Venice, the last of which has become something of a home from home. She has published a number of art books, including a collection inspired by the work of Leonard Cohen titled Hallelujah, and is the author of installations, video pieces and songs.
The Bistrot de Venise is honoured to present, for the first time in Italy, Les sept mendiants (Berg Èditions, 2016), the splendid story by Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, recently translated into French from the Yiddish by Jean Baumgarten and illustrated with drawings and paintings by Zemor. While we await the launch of an Italian edition of what has been described as one of the classic texts in Jewish literature, we take this opportunity to delve into the incredible world of Nachman of Breslov (1772-1811), the Hasidic master who has inspired poets, writers and musicians from Franz Kafka to Bob Dylan.
Book presentation organised by Francesca Brandes.
